Helen Keller Deaf-Blind Awareness Week and the Importance of Medical ID Bracelets
“Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them; but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight.”
― Helen Keller
The week of June 27 to July 3, 2021, is deaf-blind awareness week in Helen Keller’s celebration and accomplishments. Helen Keller’s story is still inspiring people with disabilities more than 50 years after her death. Born on June 27, 1880, she became ill at the age of two and was left blind and deaf. With help, Keller learned to speak with finger spelling and would go on to learn to talk so other people could understand her. Through hard work, determination, and help from many people around her, Helen Keller graduated from Radcliff College at the age of 24 in 1904. However, her accomplishments wouldn’t end with a college degree. She is also a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920 and joined the American Foundation for the Blind in 1924.
Protecting Loved ones with Hearing & sight Disabilities
Celebrate Helen Keller’s success by helping improve other people’s awareness of hearing and sight disabilities. Her experience is a severe example. Of course, there are many levels of disability. For example, individuals with a deaf-blind impairment can have some usable vision or hearing. But thanks to the progress made by the advocacy of Helen Keller, children and adults with mild or severe blindness and deafness have the opportunity to learn, grow, and advance in life. Throughout her life, she made many advancements for people with disabilities. In addition to her education and books, Keller traveled to 35 countries advocating for civil liberties.
Prevent Misunderstandings with a Medical ID Bracelet or Necklace
A medical alert ID for people with hearing and sight disabilities helps with more than emergency medical situations. It can offer another layer of protection for your loved one in many circumstances. For example, if they get separated from their caregiver, the information on the ID can help locate their companion and reduce confusion.
Additionally, the extra protection can provide more opportunities for your loved ones. With a layer of concern reduced, you may feel more comfortable with them participating in different activities, including ones with other relatives, friends, and classmates. Work with your loved one with sight and hearing difficulties so they can lead a long and happy life. The more they’re able to accomplish with their disabilities, the more fulfilling their life can be.
